Computer Skills
The Student Support Services Computer Skills class is offered during each semester and during the summer. The class is appropriate for any student currently enrolled in SSS who has little or no computer background.
The class is largely hands-on experience with each individual setting their own pace for completion of the class material. This material is organized into small, easy to complete units allowing the class format to be as non-threatening as possible for the beginning user.
The ability to type is not a requirement for the class. Typing assistance is available for those who wish to learn or improve their typing skills through a self paced computer typing program. The typing improvement program can also be used by SSS students who are not enrolled in the computer skills class.
Any student who is already using a computer to type papers but is struggling because they don't know how to best use its features or is using a typewriter to type papers could benefit from the class. The class provides students who have little or no computer experience and may feel apprehensive about using a computer, a non-threatening way to gain some practical experience on the computer. This class may also be helpful for those students who will have to take a computer science class and feel they need some basic computer background before attending the class.
Classes are scheduled at the beginning of each semester according to the interested students schedules. If a student is interested in the class they should contact the SSS office or the SSS computer literacy instructor.
