Dale Zetocha, M.S., Director of Technology Transfer


Dale Zetocha has served as the Director of the Technology Transfer Office at NDSU since 1995 and is responsible for handling intellectual property issues for the university involving invention disclosures, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, and reviewing intellectual property language in contract research agreements.

Zetocha also is the Executive Director of the NDSU Research Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, since 1995. The NDSU Research Foundation was established to own and manage university intellectual property.

NDSU Research Foundation activities include patenting and licensing intellectual property, receiving and distributing licensing revenue to support additional research activities at NDSU. A small grant program for faculty research is also administered. Over the past few years, NDSU has ranked between 55th and 61st in royalty revenue received as per an Association of University Technology Managers Survey Report.

Dale Zetocha earned a B.S. in Business Economics and a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University. He was a loan officer with the Federal Land Bank Association of Fargo from 1977 to 1979 and was a Research Assistant in the Agricultural Economics Department at NDSU from 1979-1981. Zetocha served as a small business management specialist with the NDSU Extension Service from 1981 - 1989. He worked as a business specialist and one of the original members of the NDSU Institute for Business and Industry Development from 1989 - 1995. This included market research, feasibility analysis, and providing assistance to NDSU scientists in obtaining research funding. He served as a key IBID contact with NDSU faculty to provide market evaluation and commercialization assistance for NDSU research and resulting technologies. He also served as Director of the Small Business Institute Program at NDSU.
