• Deferment is a period of time when payment is suspended for a particular type of activity.
• The period of time is usually 1-3 years. Student deferment can be longer.
• To receive a Deferment, a Deferment Request Form must be completed, certified and returned to the SLSC for processing. Borrowers will receive a confirmation of processed deferment requests. Deferment Request forms may be required every 6-9 months.

• Attending an institution of higher education at least half-time or more. This can be a college, university or technical school. Unlimited. View and print Deferment form
• Unable to find full-time employment. 3 yr. limit.
• Experiencing economic hardship. 3 yr. limit.
