Facilities to Assist Seniors

Purpose of the North Dakota Senior Facilities Locator

This is an ambitious project intended to assist individuals and caregivers in locating facilities that provide services to seniors in North Dakota. It is part of a larger initiative sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Human Services that focuses on informal caregiving in the state. We have planned this project to evolve over a series of stages.

Please Note: Information on this website has not been updated since September of 2003. If you have any questions about this project or website, please contact the North Dakota State Data Center.

Stage I

We are in the first stage of the project. In this initial stage, we focused on 16 different categories of facilities. We provide you the option of viewing where these facilities are located on maps or listing the location of the facility by category. The 16 categories are color coded to help you distinguish them on the various maps. We collected the names and locations of these facilities through a snowballing technique. We attempted to locate lists from state agencies, service providers, and through volunteers in each of the counties. Obviously, this list is not inclusive, thus we need your help in updating the list. If you know of a facility that assists seniors and is not on our list, please contact us with that information. Also, if you see that we have incorrect information, also please let us know. In addition, some of the addresses of facilities cannot be mapped due to address mapping inconsistencies (e.g., rural routes, post office boxes, abbreviated addresses, lack of street addresses, and multiple names for streets or highways). We will systematically attempt to correct this problem.

We are using static maps in the first phase. Unfortunately this limits your ability to find locations of facilities through the map option. The maps will be improved in Stage II.

Stage II

The second stage is scheduled to be launched later this summer. We will shift to a dynamic mapping process. Dynamic mapping has two important benefits. First, it will allow you to zoom in on any portion of a map to see greater detail. Second, you will be able to place your cursor on any facility and the information about that facility will pop up on your screen. This will give you more immediate access to information about facilities without having to scroll through various lists.

Stage III

Depending upon the success of this project, we hope to move into a third stage that will greatly expand the type of information provided for each facility. This may include direct links to those facilities, photos of the facilities, and much more. It is our hope that this service may become an integral part of service delivery options to seniors and caregivers in North Dakota.

Sponsor

This project is funded by a grant from the North Dakota Department of Human Services and through support from the North Dakota State Data Center. Assistance with locating facilities was obtained through the Department of Child Development and Family Services at North Dakota State University.
