CoMSTeP and BRIN: 6th Annual Conference on
Reforming Undergraduate Science
& Mathematics Education

May 19 - 21, 2003, Bismarck, ND

North Dakota Science and Mathematics Educators are invited to attend the sixth annual Science and Math Conference on Reform of Undergraduate Science and Mathematics Education, to be held in Bismarck. The theme of this year's conference, Inquiry, builds on the previous five conferences that have focused on elements of reform in undergraduate mathematics and science education.

The program includes nationally recognized science and mathematics speakers who have had experiences with innovative classroom teaching or curriculum reform at the undergraduate level. During the conference you will also have chances to hear about and discuss recent undergraduate reform efforts within our own state.

Significant support for this conference is provided by the NSF-funded NDSU-CoMSTeP project, and the NIH-funded North Dakota Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (ND-BRIN), and the Center for Science and Mathematics Education at NDSU.

The conference begins at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19th and finishes at noon on Wednesday, May 21st. A registration desk will be set up between noon and 1:00 on the first day to distribute conference materials, including the final conference program. Please note that the evening of Tuesday May 20th has been left open with no organized sessions or meals.

An important focus of the NSF-funded CoMSTeP project is on the reform of introductory science and mathematics courses taken by prospective secondary teachers. Therefore, we want especially to invite faculty from North Dakota institutions who teach first and second year courses in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, and the earth/environmental sciences. If you believe that a colleague at your institution would benefit from the conference and she or he teaches in one of the subject areas mentioned above, please encourage her or him to apply.

There is a $20 registration fee. The grant covers most of the support for your board and room. Participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis, as support is still available.
