Family

The various culture groups may define differently the makeup of the family, the circle of kinship, and the relationship of the family, both to making a living and social control. However, generally the family has given to it the responsibility of replacement of persons for the society through the having of children, their nurture, and their acculturation. Frequently, the family does function as an economic unit with a division of responsibilities among the family members. Also, typically in small cultures kinship ties (or clan ties) provide social support for a person. When calamity comes, a family can turn to its kin (or clan) for protection and for the meeting of basic needs. Do you know of rural churches that perform a family or clan function?
