Respiratory Care Specialty Option
Near the end of the internship year at MeritCare, student interns are responsible for designing a Specialty Option. This specialty consists of RC 494-Individual Study (4 credits) and a minimum of 12 credits of special electives. These special electives should be closely related to the clinical experience obtained in RC 494. They are part of the same 'total package'.
The format for each written proposal should consist of at least the following:
-
your goals and objectives for the specialty proposed
-
a listing of each special elective course to be included in your option with an explanation as to how each course helps you to meet your goals
-
a statement explaining how your RC 494 clinical experiences will impact upon your goals for the specialty option
-
a summary statement.
Additional guidelines for the written proposal will be provided by MeritCare Respiratory Care program faculty. Proposals are presented prior to completion of the internship to the RC Consortial Committee for approval. Once approved, any changes must occur by petition to the Committee. RC 494-Individual Study includes classroom instruction, clinical specialty hours, and a research project.
