Sam Markell recently joined the faculty in the Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND, as assistant professor with extension and research responsibilities in diseases of broadleaf crops. Markell received a B.S. degree in biology in 1999 and an M.S. degree in plant pathology in 2001, both from North Dakota State University. He completed his Ph.D. degree in the spring of 2007 in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Arkansas, working on the genetics of stripe rust under the guidance of wheat pathologist Gene Milus.
