Dmitry A. Gapon
Rostov-on-Don, Russia

My scientific interests include first and foremost morphology, comparative anatomy, systematics, ecology, and faunistic investigations of Pentatomidae and Scutelleridae. The investigation of the structure of completely straightened aedeagi by means of an original method is an important part of my interests. This method makes possible the examination of those parts of the aedeagus which are usually difficult to examine by other methods. The method is based on hydraulic extrusion of the endosoma from the theca using microcapillaries, with subsequent drying of the aedeagus. During the drying, the air is pumped into the endosoma. As a result, a dry preparation of a completely inflated endosoma is obtained, showing its shape and sculpture in detail. I use these preparations in my taxonomic and phylogenetic research. Also I use in it the structure of other parts of male and female genitalia.

Current Projects:

At the moment I am engaged in a taxonomical investigation of world-wide faunae of Asopinae and Podopinae.  In addition to that, I am bringing to completion work about the taxonomical status of tribe Procleticini and the review of genus Promecocoris Puton, as well as finishing the work started together with F. V. Konstantinov, which is dedicated to the structure of the aedeagus of Pentatomidae.
