1. Where is the Campus Parking Office?
The Campus Parking Office is located in Thorson Maintenance Center on Bolley Drive within the NDSU Facilities Management Department. Summer Office hours are 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday. You may contact the Campus Parking Office at (701) 231-5771, by fax at (701) 231- 8008 or online at

2. How many parking spaces are on campus?
The Campus Parking Office manages 8167 parking stalls in 67 lots ranging from one space to 1500 spaces.
3. How do I purchase a campus parking permit?
All motor vehicles parking on the NDSU campus (except in pay lots, meters and some time zones) are required to have a valid NDSU parking permit. Faculty, staff, and students may purchase one parking permit per academic year from the Campus Parking Office. Permit sales are conducted each business day with special sales announced prior to each semester.
4. How do I pay for a parking ticket?
All fines and penalties are payable by mail or in person at the City of Fargo Auditor’s office (200 N. 3
rd St.). Special drop boxes are located in front of City Hall (200 N. 3rd St.) and Fargo-Cass Public Health Department (401 3rd Ave. N.). The city also offers online payment atwww.cityoffargo.com/Residential/Onlinepaymentcenter.
5. It’s just an NDSU parking ticket; I don’t have to pay it if I don’t want to, right?
Wrong! Through an agreement with the City of Fargo, NDSU issues City of Fargo citations which, if ignored, can result in additional fines and a summons against the registered owner of the vehicle. Vehicles can also be towed and impounded for failure to pay citations. More information on City of Fargo parking citations can be found at

6. How do I appeal a parking ticket?
Persons disagreeing with a ticket they have received on the NDSU campus may complete a Ticket Appeal Form at the Campus Parking Office or online at http://facilities-mgmt/ndsu.nodak.edu/parking/citationappeal.htm. The Campus Parking Office must receive appeals within 5 calendar days of ticket issuance. A committee of Campus Parking Office personnel and University Police will evaluate the appeal and notify the applicant of their decision. Tickets will not be considered for appeal without a Ticket Appeal Form.
7. When can I park without a permit? After hours? Holidays? Breaks?
Students with or without parking permits may park in any lot from 4:30 PM to 7 AM on weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (as listed in the NDSU Policy Manual) except in the following areas: State Fleet Lot, Library, Staff Unloading, designated Reserved Parking, Shuttle Bus stops, BU Lot, FargoDome, University Village and Bison Court. Employees with or without parking permits may park in any lot from 4:30 PM to 7 AM weekdays and all day Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays (as listed in the NDSU Policy manual) except in the State Fleet Lot, Library, BU Lot, designated Reserved Parking, and any lot temporarily reserved for Red Hawks Baseball fan parking. All parking regulations are enforced during class breaks.
8. What if my vehicle becomes inoperable or stalled in a lot?
If your vehicle becomes stalled in an NDSU parking facility, contact the Campus Parking Office. If your vehicle is impeding or blocking traffic flow, contact University Police at 231-8998.
9. How does visitor parking work?
A self-service, centrally located Visitor Pay Lot accepts cash, major credit cards and the NDSU Bison Card. Parking meters are installed in the South Union, Ceres/Dinan, Northern Crop Institute, and Wellness Lots for short duration visits to academic or administrative offices and the Wellness center. Free parking in all Metered Lots and Visitor Pay Lot is available from 4:30 PM -7 AM weekdays, all day Saturdays and Sundays, and official
holidays.
10. What parking options are available if I am physically disabled?
Permanently disabled persons who want to use University designated handicapped parking areas must obtain a State Handicapped Permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Persons with short-term disabilities may obtain an accessible parking permit (NDSU property only) at the Campus Parking Office. Appropriate written verification of disability from your physician is required. Handicapped permits must be displayed in conjunction with a valid NDSU permit with the exception of the handicap parking meters located in the Visitor, South Union, and Wellness Lots.
11. Can I purchase a permit for only one day or a week?
A temporary/one-day permit may be purchased if space permits. Students,
temporary/volunteer employees, or an employing department may purchase the temporary/one-day permit for $5 per week or $1 per day. If a permit is required for longer than 6 weeks, it is no longer considered temporary and an annual permit may be required.
12. My car is gone! Who do I call?
University Police (231-8998) maintains a record of all tows on campus. To recover impounded vehicles, contact Border Cities Service at 701-280-0620. Occasionally, on campus housing lots must be cleared of snow. During significant snow events, the Residence Life Department will coordinate removal of vehicles with University Police, Facilities Management and the Campus Parking Office.
13. The lot that I want a permit for is no longer available. Can I get on a waiting list?
If you are a student living off campus, you can contact the Campus Parking Office to be placed on a waiting list for the commuter lots. If you are a student living on campus or a faculty/staff person, your lot is pre-assigned according to your housing or work location.
14. I have a permit, but my lot is full. Where can I park?
Refer to the reverse side of your parking permit for your overflow location(s). All NDSU permits are also honored weekdays at the FargoDome (lots C, D, E) with shuttle service available. No overnight parking is allowed at the FargoDome.
15. Where can I park my motorcycle?
The annual fee for a motorcycle permit is $10, which allows the unit to be parked only in designated motorcycle spaces. The permit is free provided the owner possesses a valid NDSU parking permit. Designated motorcycle parking locations are available throughout the campus. Motorcycles may not park in bicycle racks or areas adjacent to bicycle racks.
16. What if I forget to hang my permit and I receive a parking ticket?
When you purchase your permit, you will receive a one-time “I forgot to hang my permit” Excuse-It Card. Bring this card and your ticket to the Campus Parking Office to be excused from the violation. Only valid for a “No Permit” violation received in your assigned lot.
17. How are parking lots allocated?
Commuter lots for students living off campus are assigned first come, first served. Parking lots for students living on campus are assigned by the Residence Life Office according to housing location. Parking for faculty and staff is assigned by department and proximity to office location.
18. Can I give my permit to my friend or spouse to use?
Parking permits are not transferable and are to be used only by the individual assigned to the permit by the Campus Parking Office.
19. My department has a group coming for a special event. How do I handle parking?
An Event/Conference Parking Request Form is available at the Campus Parking Office or online at http://facilities-mgmt.ndsu.nodak.edu/parking. The request will be evaluated and the Campus Parking Office will assist you in special arrangements.
20. My parking permit is for the FargoDome. When does the shuttle run?
Bus service is available by Metropolitan Area Transit (MAT) for all NDSU students, faculty and staff throughout campus. NDSU students can ride any MAT bus free of charge with their student ID! Complete details of routes, schedules and fares are available at

21. My friend just bought a permit off a guy selling them in my dorm. Is this OK?
Permits are only valid when purchased from NDSU. Reproducing, defacing, forging, altering, obscuring, transferring, and/or retaining and using a found permit will be subject to revocation of parking permit and/or disciplinary action. The vehicle also may be subject to impoundment; criminal charges, fines or university sanctions may be filed against the owner/operator.
22. I am graduating/transferring midyear. Can I get a refund?
Students or employees who leave the University before the end of the regular school year, or who no longer need to park on campus, may bring their permit to the Campus Parking Office for a prorated refund. Refunds will be issued only to the registered owner of the permit, and the permit must be returned to the Campus Parking Office.
23. Can I get a parking permit for the Wallman Wellness Center parking lot (WES)?
WES student parking permits will not be available for the 2008-09 academic year.
Additional permits have been allocated to other commuter lots to compensate for the removal of these spaces. Due to the expansion of the Wellness Center and the additional programs and events occurring at the Center, there has been a significant increase in the demand for short-term, occasional use parking. This summer, the Wellness Center parking lots will be reconfigured to significantly expand the availability of metered parking. The new Pay & Display meters will be similar to those in the Visitor’s Pay Lot and will accept coin, bills, major credit cards and the Bison Card.
