Student Research Opportunities

I am committed to the education and training of new scientists through participation in original research.

Over the years I have sponsored some 8 visiting scientists/postdoctorals and mentored 15 graduate students and 64 undergraduates (UG). I’ve also worked with 12 high school/middle school science teachers on summer teacher preparation/inquiry-based learning programs and with 23 high school students on a summer “college bound” program. Former students have positions in academia, private research institutes/clinics, and industry.

The involvement of UGs is especially important considering their pivotal stage of development. While I cannot make an endocrinologist out of every student, I feel it is possible to create an exciting and enriching atmosphere that may tip the balance in favor of their choosing a career in science.

Of the 14 UGs who worked in my laboratory during the past five years, one is employed in industry, 6 entered professional schools (MD, OD, DDS), 4 entered graduate school, and 2 are continuing UG.

Please feel free to contact me about undergraduate or graduate research opportunities.
