University Assessment Committee Minutes 
Thursday, April 13, 2000, 2:00 p.m.

Minutes

1.  There were no corrections to the minutes of the March 30, 2000,  meeting.

Announcements 

1.  J. W. Schroeder was introduced as a guest at this meeting and as a potential representative of the Extension Service.  Tom Scherer has requested that a replacement be identified. 

2.  Vice President Schnell will host the members of the committee and
    their guest on May 8, 2000.  Details are available in an e-mail 
    message from Linda Gill.

3.  Harrold called for interest in attending the AAHE Assessment 
    Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina on June14-18, 2000. 
    Please let him know if you are interested. 

Reports 

1.  Members discussed Dr. Wresch's visit and it was agreed that he 
    was effective.  Attendance at his  presentation was not as high as
    the committee would have preferred.  A handout titled "Why I Love
    Assessment" that was used at the Open Forum by Dr. Wresch was 
    distributed and discussed.

2.  A handout on general education outcomes was distributed. 
    The committee then discussed assessment of general education. 
    Members of the University Assessment Committee expressed interest
    in continued assessment of general education courses. 

Unfinished Business

1.  The Luncheon on April 25, 2000, honoring the Nursing Department 
    was discussed.  Laura De Hann will MC the luncheon.

2.  The members of this committee decided, by consensus, that Susan
    Hatfield would be invited to serve the roles of external evaluator
    and outside speaker, if an appropriate schedule can be developed.
    Harrold was directed to communicate with Dr. Hatfield, who has
    commitments on October 12-13, 2000. 

3.  Harrold reported that there are 20 assessment reports out with 
    reviewers and about 12 departments are delinquent on their reports
    for FY 1999-2000.  Harrold will distribute the list of delinquent
    departments to members of the committee as an e-mail message.
