Timelines relevant to VCL

• Art history timelines--nice design, but not a lot of info.
• A history of the book--not quite a timeline.
• Early visual media--also not quite a timeline. The author calls the site a "raree" or "peep show."
• A timeline for photography, with comments added below the timeline.
• A pyramid timeline of sound in film.
• A tech-heavy timeline for Film and Television
• A film history by decade.
• A history of the computer ("Triumph of the Nerds") that needs significant updating.

Timelines in general

I've been searching for timelines, and came across a well developed collection by George Emery. He has been collecting since 1993. I haven't sampled very many yet, but am generally disappointed by the text-heavy nature of the ones I have seen. Where are the images?!

The website HyperHistorymakes execellent use of timelines--people and events placed on a timeline, with hyperlinks to a node of information, never leaving the main screen. Nice design!

The BBC has compiled timelines for British and Scottish history (others as well); a variety of approach to information graphics.
