In Class writing:  what are you doing here: college, ndsu, this class?  We will talk about the complexity of simple writing assignments, and talk about writing as building relationships.

Read Kevin's Top 10 list and laugh appropriately.

We will look closely at the genre of top 10 lists. 

Short writing assignment due: 

A top 10 list that is somehow about music.  Provide enough information so that your list makes sense to the rest of the class.

Please use a word processor; I will ask you to post this top 10 list to the web next week.

Introduction to the course materials online, the course weblog.  

Read Chapter 1, CTW.   Be prepared to discuss the differences between the high school paper and the college paper (pages 20-23).

Short writing assignment:

Page 8, CTW: What is writing? What is Literacy?  Please do this assignment on a computer and bring a disk with this piece of writing and your top 10 list from Friday the 29th.  You will work on getting your writing posted today or Friday if you run into a problem.

Read Chapter 15: Communicating Online especially 492-99 and 508-510. 

Read what has been posted to the class weblog. Respond to others' posting if you are "called to blog." 

Short Writing assignment:

Respond to the questions under "exploring your experience" (493).  Post your response to the class weblog, or to your personal weblog with a short introduction and link in the class weblog.

Follow up on Wednesday's tasks. Make sure you know how to post to the class weblog, how to use a personal weblog, and how to link from the class weblog to your personal weblog and other sites.

Read Chapter 11: Reviews, especially 386-391.

Bring a copy of at least one music review you found on Amazon.com or another e-commerce site. We will compare Rob Marriott's album review in Call to Write to the reviews you have found, and try to figure out the amazon.com review conventions.

Read Chapter 12: Case Study of a Writing Assignment: 428-46.

Bring three copies of a complete draft of your amazon.com review to class.  We will look at the writing assignment as a whole, and we will play around with language a bit.

Fri.

Read you classmates' reviews during class time or after class today.  Give each other feedback!

First graded assignment due:

Have someone read your review, make final changes, post review, create link in class weblog.
