Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering
North Dakota State University
Internship/Co-op Survey (2001-2005)
The internship/Co-op data before 2005 was gathered using the survey conducted by the Career Service office of the university at NDSU. The department developed two new instruments to be used in addition to the NDSU instruments starting fall 2005. The first survey instrument is the Internship/Co-op Experience Evaluation instrument which is completed during an interview with the department chair to gauge student’s experience and how well they were prepared by the program for their internship/co-op experience. This process also serves as a way of evaluating student’s communication skills. The instrument is a self-assessment of student’s competence and performance and an assessment of the program outcomes.
The second instrument is the Internship/Co-op Employer Evaluation of student’s performance which gauges the student’s experience from the employers’ point of view. The students are assessed by their employers based on their achievement and performance in line with the program outcomes. Both survey instruments are also available on line at http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndsu/ime/htmls/abet_accreditation.htm the department website under Co-op Experience, using "Student Survey" and "Employers Survey" button.
Student’s performance in relation to all program outcomes are assessed on a scale from 1-5. The metric goal for these instruments is 75% which illustrates the level of achievement necessary for our graduates to achieve the Educational Objectives set by the department. All the criteria were ranked 4.0/5.0 (Performance higher than expected or well) or more.
