We provide light and electron microscopy and imaging technology for teaching and research in physical and biological sciences on the NDSU campus and beyond; training and support services for microscopy; sample preparation; and in situ elemental/molecular analyses. To help defray the cost of equipment, expendables, service contracts, and salaries that are not covered by NDSU, we operate on a "for fee" basis.

Our microscopy services include fixation, dehydration, infiltration, embedding, ultra­thin sectioning, immunogold labeling, staining, critical-point drying, and evaporative and sputter coating for electron microscopy.  In addition, the laboratory also has the equipment and expertise to assist in bright-field, dark-field, phase-contrast, polarizing, immunofluorescence, and confocal fluorescence light microscopy, as well as complete film-based and digital image acquisition and photographic processing.

Scientists and students who have demonstrated experience and competence in electron and/or light microscopy have full access to instrumentation; assistance is provided to individuals who use the equipment only infrequently; and full service (including sample preparation, acquisition and interpretation of micrographs, image storage and retrieval, and preparation of publications and presentations) is available to those who wish to contract for services.

We will be pleased to meet with you at no charge to discuss your research/imaging needs; a cost estimate can be prepared at that time to assist you in your planning.
