Transmission Electron Microscopes

  • JEOL JEM-100CX II transmission electron microscope

The JEOL 100CX is our primary research TEM, providing magnification from 100x to 250,000x and a resolution of 0.2nm.  It is capable of accelerating voltages from 20-100kV, but operates at 80kV for most biological purposes.  You can observe your specimen on the traditional phosphorus screen, or capture images on 3.25 x 4" film.  The camera holds 50 sheets of film, and micrographs are printed with magnifications and sequential identification numbers.  Negatives can be processed in the darkroom or scanned for digital storage and manipulation.

  • JEOL JEM-100S transmission electron microscope

The 100S, used primarily for teaching, is similar to the 100CX II.  It is relatively easy to learn and use, and provides excellent images from 1000x through the 60,000x range at 40 to 100kV.
