Prepared Kids
North Dakota
Prepared Kids is a club for kids in grades K-5. The goal of Prepared Kids is to empower youth to be more aware of, and better prepared for, hazards and emergencies. Prepared Kids uses FEMA and American Red Cross materials to teach kids basic hazard information, preparedness activities, and proper response behaviors.
To become a club member, kids must complete their FEMA workbook and have their parent or guardian sign the request for membership form. Membership is free and all new club members receive a membership kit. Prepared Kids seeks to acknowledge and reward its members with member-only access to fun-filled events, a quarterly newsletter, and the special status of being a Prepared Kid.
The Prepared Kids teaching program is offered free of charge to teachers in either a one-time class offering or multiple offerings to coincide with curriculum themes. Prepared Kids facilitators are professionals and college students working in the emergency management community who are committed to equipping kids with the knowledge they need to keep themselves safe. To schedule a Prepared Kids session, contact Carol Cwiak at (701) 231-5847 or carol.cwiak@ndsu.edu.
Prepared Kids is a collaborative effort between the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Emergency Management Program and FirstLink.
