2.     ITS Update

a.       ConnectND training and support is being addressed by the NDUS ConnectND team.  Campuses have each been asked to provide a name of a person who will be the contact for training and PC support.  On the NDUS side, it has been agreed that the University System Help Desk (a joint effort by NDSU and UND) will be the technical point of contact for ConnectND as well as the distributor of technical information for ConnectND.

b.      ITS staff have been testing some of the Office 2003 products.  There are some issues with these products, including a number of fixes, workarounds and errors that appear on the support pages.  ITS is recommending that MS2003 products not be rolled out to campus computers until they have been thoroughly researched and tested by ITS staff.  Estimated timeframe is January 1.  Several CITPG members volunteered to "beta" new software.  Rosi will be putting out a notice to the campus this week.

3.     Modem Pool

a.       We began preliminary discussion of the eventual fate of the modem pool following the expiration of the current contract.  There was a question about whether current use statistics are still available online, Rosi Kloberdanz will find out.  Some of the questions that were raised included:

a.       How heavy is use currently?

b.      Who are the current users?  Is it a lot of people or a few heavy power users?

c.       What will be the cost of continuing modem service?

d.      How many lines?  Does half the lines equate to half the cost?

 4. File Backup Support

a.       Paul Juell asked whether ITS had developed file backup services for departments.  D. Wittrock reported the such a system had been developed for the Psychology Department.  Rosi will ask John Grosen to provide additional information.
