Additional Classroom Technology Resources

There will be an additional nine Instrumented Classrooms ready for fall semester. They will be installed in the following rooms: Stevens 230, Ehly 204, Sudro 26, Sudro 27, Minard 136 (new annex), Minard 138 (new annex), Minard 334 (new annex), Nelson 104 (HD&E Laptop room), and EML 378 (HD&E Laptop room).  The HD&E Laptop Classrooms are a collaborative effort between NDSU & Valley City State University whereby each student will bring a laptop to class.

Also in place for fall semester will be 16 additional Multimedia Carts, which will be located in buildings across campus. Two of these carts will be for the new Minard annex (1 for first floor and 1 for second floor).  Other specific building locations are still under consideration.

With the success of the Personal Response System (PRS), which was installed in the existing Instrumented Classrooms last fall, it has been decided to install the system with all new Instrumented Classrooms. PRS will also be installed in an additional 12 classrooms that do not have equipment permanently installed in them. In order to use the PRS receivers in these rooms the instructor will need to reserve the buildings Multimedia Cart, which will have the PRS software loaded on the computer and a cable for connecting to the PRS that is installed in the classroom. The 12 rooms that will have the PRS receivers installed in them include: Stevens 231, Bentson/Bunker Fieldhouse 29, C&IE 101, Dolve 10, Dolve 204, Dolve 117, Loftsgard 104, Morrill 111 (cluster), and four rooms in the new Minard annex. To further facilitate the use of PRS, there will be 20 PRS receivers and cables that will be available for checkout from the ITS Service Center, which can be used with a Multimedia Cart in any room on campus that does not have the receivers installed in them.

Other Minard annex info:

Overhead transparency projectors with carts are planned for each classroom.

White boards and movie screens for the new Minard annex classrooms are on the list for Physical Plant to purchase and install.  Bruce Frantz thought there may be a small chance the building contingency funds would cover this.  But, VP Schnell explained this must get done so he will figure something out if the contingency funds can not pay for this.

The work that Physical Plant plans to do is:

Movie Screens -
Order and mount 7 movie screens in the following rooms.  Movie screens should be powerized and mounted high enough to not be obstructed by backs of students heads or multimedia carts/cabinets.  Locations and size:
  Room 138 - 13 ft. wide screen
  Room 334 - 8 ft. wide screen
  Room 136 - 12 ft. wide screen
  Rooms 134A, 340, 342, & 346 - 8 ft screens

White Boards -
Order and mount white boards in the front of all the above rooms.  Plan as much white board in the front of each room as possible.
