CITPG Meeting Minutes

April 14, 2003, 2 p.m. Minard Hall, Room 120

Present: Balaz, Barnhart, Egeberg, Grosen, Juell, J. Kapaun, S. Kapaun, Klenow, Pikalek, Ross, Saini-Eidukat, Schlecht, Tareski, and Wittrock

  1. Minutes - The minutes for the April 7 meeting of CITPG were approved.

 

  1. ITS Update
    1. ITS is proposing an increase in the hourly rate for network services from $30 to $35 per hour.  The proposal will be presented to the President’s Cabinet.
    2. ITS has discussed web services for students.  A major obstacle is funding.  One solution would be a small per semester charge ($5?) that would cover the installation of a special server with a fixed amount of storage per student.  This would require support positions (possibly student support).  A second possibility would be a technology fee proposal to fund the project.  The Internet Users Subcommittee is currently addressing similar issues and hopes to have a report for CITPG soon.  We will have further discussion of this issue at that time.
    3. The Novell update is currently at a standstill because of technical problems.  Attempts to solve these problems are being made and a search for alternative solutions has also begun.
    4. Access to standard reports through Page Center will be discontinued in January 2005.  There were questions about the implications of this and the issue will be added to a future agenda.

    1. Discussed questions to ask of the ITS Director candidates.  A set of questions was drafted and will be sent to the membership for comment.  The comment period will close at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 16.
