CITPG Meeting Minutes

March 24, 2003, 2 p.m. Minard Hall, Room 120

Present: Barnhart, Egeberg, Grosen, Juell, S. Kapaun, Kloberdanz, Latimer, Pikalek, Ross, Saini-Eidukat, Schlecht, Schroeder, Tareski, and Wittrock

  1. Minutes - The minutes for the March 10 meeting of CITPG were approved.

 

  1. ITS Update
    1. We continued in the development of a business continuity plan.  The information gathering is continuing.  CITPG will be scheduled to meet with the consultants on April 7.
    2. ITS would like to have a CITPG member serve on a search committee to hire a new work group leader to be in charge of LAN services and desktop support.  Joe Latimer was appointed to serve on this search committee.

 

  1. Discussion Items
    1. A question was raised as to whether CITPG would address the issues of pornography filtering of internet access.  We discussed the difficulties of implementing such a filter, in particular the loss of access to legitimate information.  We decided a filtering solution was not appropriate at this time.  It was suggested that ITS could issue another advisory addressing this issue.  (The JAMA paper that was mentioned at the meeting appeared December 11, 2002, pages 2887-2894.
    2. We briefly discussed the options available to instructors of internet courses for verifying that test takers were actually the students enrolled in the course.  We decided to ask the Technology Enhanced Learning Committee to investigate the issue and possibly to develop some options for instructors of these courses.
    3. We began discussion of an agenda for the meeting we will have with the candidates for the ITS Director position.  We will have one hour to meet with the candidates.  We decided to have subcommittees suggest topics of current interest to the campus.  We will finalize our agenda in future meetings.  The website for the search is located at: http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/its/director_search/.
