J. Ross has communicated with individuals who had comments on the Cluster Software Update.
Microsoft Project and Microsoft Publisher are no longer included in the license for Microsoft Office on the Custer computers. ITS cannot afford a license to have these programs put on all cluster computers. ITS is exploring options for having the programs available when necessary for courses.
R. Kloberdanz has sent a memo to administrators and department heads regarding wireless technology. There are problems with wireless technology including bandwidth requirements and security issues. ITS is working with a few campus departments on wireless test projects, but would like departments who want to develop wireless projects to contact John Grosen prior to beginning the project. ITS has stated that at this time no department is permitted to deploy its own wireless network. This memo was posted to the CITPG list on Monday, April 22.
One system campus had an attack that pushed bandwidth usage over the campus’s quota. The campus was granted a one-time waver of implementation of the bandwidth fee. This is a continuing issue of concern for our campus, as well as the entire system. For more information see “Bandwidth is expensive: http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/its/view.php?ArtID=177 and the graphs of bandwidth use patterns: http://www.und.nodak.edu/cgi-bin/network/cisu.pl
ERP Update: Valley City and Mayville have been picked as the roll out sites for the ERP project. The contract signing is imminent (if it hasn’t already happened).
Academic Affairs will discuss revising the course proposal form to include Information Technology in the resources needed section of the form.
The state has an Enterprise Architecture committee that is defining IT standards; John Grosen is a member and will report on the actions of this committee.
The election of a chair will take place at next Monday’s meeting.
We need to develop a plan for CITPG to remain aware of issues that develop over the summer; we will discuss this issue at next Monday’s meeting
The final CITPG meeting of the academic year will take place at D. Wittrock’s home on Monday, May 6 at 4:00pm, details to follow.
The meeting adjourned at 3:23pm.
