  1. Minutes - The minutes for the March 25, 2002 CITPG meeting were approved.

  1. Visit with VP Schnell

Vice President for Academic Affairs Craig Schnell attended the meeting.  The main topic of conversation dealt with standards for office computers.  The vision involves a standard PC setup for faculty and staff machines.  This would not preclude alternative setups for individuals with special needs (including innovations), but would set a base operating capability that would be supported by ITS.  This plan could create an economy of scale that might make technology purchases less expensive; it could also create training and procedure standards that could be used by all ITS support personnel, which would enhance the efficiency of ITS support.  The primary question involved the meaning of a standard.  The plan is in its early phase.  It was decided that John Grosen should be invited to a CITPG meeting at a future date to provide more information.

  1. Cluster Software Updates.

J. Ross provided a summary of the concerns and comments from faculty members regarding the cluster updates.  The only issue that was not resolved at this time was the need for Netscape 4.08 for the WWWIC projects.  P. McClean had documentation for a possible solution.  J. Ross will have his staff continue to pursue a solution.  If a solution is found, we will conduct an e-vote on the final recommendation.  (Note: progress has been made but a final solution was still not available on 4-11.  This issue will be addressed at the 4-15 meeting.)
