What Institutes Good Writing For Me in English 110 In todays modern society that we currently live in, there are many different opinions about what institutes good writing. However, because we live in a Republican culture, every opinion is valid and none is right. To have an opinion is every mans pejorative, of course, but some really do not care. My belief is that some people think good writing is important and some people do not. In fact, some people in our modern culture do not know how to read and others do not know how to speak English. I do not think they have an opinion about good writing. But some people who do know how to read and speak English might care about good writing. In my personal opinion, good writing means that you know spelling and grammar and how to speak English. For example, I always use a spell check and a grammar check when I write; therefore, I know that my writing is good. I also got many As in high school, which is another way to know your writing is good. My second opinion about good writing is that it is very hard to do if you dont speak English. For example, many people who dont speak English now live in North Dakota. I dont think they should drive a car. How can you drive a car if you cannot read the road signs along the edges of the highway? How can you take the driving test? These are problems we all agree upon in our modern society. Thirdly, I know some things that arent good writing, and this is just as important as knowing what institutes good writing. For example, writing that has spelling errors is not good. Also, writing that has grammar errors is usually bad writing. In addition, using contractions in writing is a real problem all English teachers notice. In this English 110 class at North Dakota State University, I think that we will learn more about what is supposed to institute good writing for English teachers. I think this will be very much like what my high school English teacher thought. Mr. Bjornenson, my high school English teacher, also taught my drivers education class and was our football coach. He taught us empathetically that "spelling counts!" I believe that, too; he was a very good football coach because we won the state nines two years in a row when I was a sophomore and a junior. Finally, as I turn this draft into longer paper, I think I will need more information about two things. The first thing I will need more information about is if college teachers think the same things high school teachers do. To get this information, I think I will have to e-mail Mr. Bjornenson to ask him whether he thinks about different things than college teachers. I do not think this will be a problem because my boyfriend, Mike Ichey, played football and I know Mr. Bjornenson liked me because he gave me As in his classes. The other thing I might need more information about is people who do not speak English. For example, maybe they cannot drive a car already and I just do not know about this. I see them driving, but maybe they do not have a license. This is important information I need to know more about. I can probably find this important information at the library, on the internet, or anyplace, because this is important to many people. Finally, I think what institutes good writing in todays society is a very important issue if you care about that. Many people do care about that, and I think these people are called English teachers. Their jobs are very important ones in this culture, especially because so many of them teach driving, too, at least in high school. Driving is not a right but a responsibility that we all need to take very seriously, just like good writing. I know I take it seriously, thanks to my English teacher, Mr. Bjornenson.
