#1 Reading Responses: 10

Due: One each week, on calendar. (E-mail to me if you must miss class—I won’t accept them late.)

Length: At least one, but no more than two single-spaced, typed pages.
Points: Each is worth ten points

Assignment: The reading responses are to help you keep track of your reading for the week—so you remember what you’d wanted to discuss—they should include:

  • a concise summary of the central points of the articles you read;
  • a response that demonstrates a synthesis of the ideas in a variety of articles;
  • a question or two for discussion.

If you had difficulty with an article, feel free to mention that, but use the opportunity to work through possible meanings. It’s even better if you want to work together before you come to class, either via e-mail or face-to-face to discuss this material.

Grading Criteria: Reading Response:

  • shows understanding of material and ability to accurately and concisely summarize an author’s argument.
  • demonstrates the ability to drawn well-reasoned connections among a variety of ideas, authors, and articles.
  • communicates author’s ideas effectively (you’re the author).
  • develops good questions, ideas for discussion.
