Peer Review:
- Pass out paper drafts to every member of the group (or exchange drafts
in an orderly way).
- Read through each paper and make sure paper does the following things:
- Employs a clear focus on a single writing program.
- Uses specific examples to elaborate on assertions about that program.
- Contains examples appropriate to the topic.
- Is well researched; shows research that extends beyond to contents
of a single web page.
- Examines not just a first year class, but a writing program, and how
that program works for the specific students at the institution.
- Cites sources by putting quotes around material drawn directly from
text, introduces quotes, explains meaning.
- Quotes minimally.
- Summarizes carefully, making certain to cite summarized or paraphrased
material.
- If there are problems with research, help the author search the web
for more information or information that better develops his/her points.
- If there are problems citing sources, be sure to help the author understand
how to introduce summaries or quotes and cite in-text. If you need help
with this, check the pages on citing sources on our class web site.
- Help the author by pointing out places where the organization needs
to be clearer or tighter. Make sure the paper is in a logical, not random
order.
- Help the author by pointing to places where the meaning is not clear
because of awkward word choices, fuzzy sentence structure, or short,
choppy sentences.
- Do not edit this paper. You are only helping the author make
sure his/her paper meets the assignment and assuring that the research
is complete as possible. (You may help edit the next draft of papers
on next Thursday.)
