Organization:

  • the overall logic of the project is clear
  • the organization is appropriate to this genre
  • transitions between sentences and paragraphs show the reader logical connections among the pieces of evidence employed
  • author attempts to forecast the overall argument of the project
  • author signposts regularly–reader is not confused by organizational choices
       

Expression:

  • consistent point-of-view (controlled, if any, shifts)
  • voice and diction are appropriate to the genre, audience, and purpose of the essay
  • sentence vary in length and type
  • word choice is accurate, appropriate, and interesting
       

Shows adequate attention to:

  • proofing
