Identification: Body size medium, 13 to 14 mm in length.  Dorsal surfaces of head and prothorax either dark metallic red (most specimens) or dark metallic green.  Dorsal surface of elytra dark red with metallic copper reflections.  Elytral markings light cream-colored.  All elytral markings well-developed and connected along margin.  Labrum tridentate and quite long.  Clypeus glabrous.  Frons and genae with erect setae.  Antennal scape with 4 sensory setae and several accessory setae.

Remarks: Two subspecies of C. lengi occur in North Dakota:  C. lengi versuta Dejean and the nominate subspecies C. lengi lengi Horn.  C. lengi lengi has the proepisternum bright blue or green, while   C. lengi versuta has the proepisternum coppery.  In North Dakota, C. lengi most closely resembles C. formosa generosa and can be separated from the latter by its smaller body size and noticeably long labrum.

Habitat: Sparsely vegetated dry sandy areas.

North Dakota Distribution: C. lengi versuta is probably distributed statewide, but appears to be most common in the southwestern part of the state.  C. lengi lengi is restricted to the southwestern part of the state.

Season: A spring/fall species.  Adults are most active during May and June, and again in August and September.
