Cicindela decemnotata Say Distribution in North Dakota
Identification: Body size medium, ranging from 12 to 14 mm in length. Dorsal surfaces of head, prothorax and elytra bright green. Elytral maculations light cream colored. Humeral lunule broken. Marginal line absent. Middle band complete and long. Apical lunule entire or broken. Apical dot distinct. Labrum tridentate. Clypeus glabrous. Frons and genae with erect setae. Antennal scape with four sensory setae and several accessory setae.
Remarks: The heavy distinct middle band and apical dot separate this species from the similar C. limbalis.
Habitat: Dry sandy, gravelly, or clay soils.
North Dakota Distribution: To date, C. decemnotata has only been rarely collected from McKenzie County in western North Dakota.
Season: North Dakota museum specimens have collection dates from mid-May through June, although adult C. decemnotata are active during late summer and early autumn as well.
