Hello!

We are pleased to announce the 2006 Basic Course Director’s Conference will be held February 2nd-4th at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Fargo, ND. Registration will begin on Thursday after 4:00 p.m. with programs scheduled from Friday morning through Saturday noon.

The conference fee this year will be $100.00 (as in previous years) and $150 for publishers, to help cover costs of meeting rooms, refreshments, meals, and other exciting surprises we have planned. We would like to offer a reduced rate to graduate students ($50.00) to encourage their attendance, as well. We have planned Saturday afternoon and evening events for those who would like to stay until Sunday. (You might want to do so….it’s going to be fun!)

Based on the interest that emerged in Phoenix about how to best reach
students today, the theme of this year’s conference is “That was then, this is now.” We are planning a kick-off panel comprised of basic course directors from the 1960s and 1970s to share with us their experiences in directing the basic course in the early years. From there, we will move to sessions on dealing most effectively with students today (i.e., distance courses, non-traditional students, technology-related curriculum resources, and so on). Of course, other session ideas are both encouraged and welcomed, as well.

You’ll find links to the registration form, the hotel registration information, and program submission topics and panel ideas on this web site. If you have an idea or want to be sure to get included on a panel, feel free to fill out the form or contact me directly by telephone or email. Submissions due by January 1st.

We are so excited to have the opportunity to host you all in Fargo this year. Please start making plans to attend. That way you can be one of the folks who can claim, “Yes, I survived Fargo in February, 2006!”
