Course Description: Information system support of the decision-making process and modeling the decision-making process via expert systems, neural networks, and hybrid intelligent systems are the primary focus of this course. The state-of-the-art in knowledge management will be explored. Pre-requisite: MIS 370, CSci 228.
Credit: 3.0 credit hours.
Course Objectives: 1) to understand the use and management of data, information, and knowledge in organizations, 2) To develop a practical understanding of the design of decision support and knowledge management systems, 3) to develop experience in the use and implementation of analytical tools for business decision making, 4) to apply analytical tool design, knowledge representations, and implementation skills in course projects.
Grading: Grading is based on the 90-80-70% grading system.
Evaluation: The emphasis of the course is practical in nature and evaluation will reflect this emphasis. Group and individual projects will contribute significantly to evaluation. However, individual progress will also be evaluated through 3 exams. Presentations, quizzes, and homework may also be used for evaluation. A tentative breakdown of evaluation is as follows:
