The College of Human Development and Education was established July, 1992. The School of Education, the College of Home Economics, and the Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation were combined to form this new college. There are five units in the college-Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design, Child Development and Family Science, Education, Food and Nutrition, and Health, Physical Education and Recreation. A degree from the college can prepare students for careers in secondary education, colleges and universities, business and industry, community services, hospitals and health care facilities, and public and private programs concerned with design, human welfare, fitness, and recreation.

The College of Human Development and Education encompasses teaching, research and service. The basic goal is to broaden the student's understanding and appreciation of the aesthetic, cultural, economic, physical, psychological and social elements which influence individual and family well-being College programs are designed to help each student develop professional competencies, attain a liberal education and relate the learnings from the basic disciplines to various applications.
