OfficeHow can I fax a document?You can fax a document from the Memorial Union Copy Desk or the ME Office (Dolve 111). If you want to fax from the ME Office for personal reasons, you will need a phone card or NDSU long distance authorization code, otherwise long-distance costs are $0.25 per page. There is no charge to fax to a local number from the ME Office. top
Where can I retrieve lost items?Items lost in Dolve can be retrieved in the ME Office (Dolve 111) if they are found. For other buildings, check in departmental offices or with the custodian.

AdvisorsHow am I assigned an advisor?When your name is submitted to the Mechanical Engineering Department for admission into the ME program, an academic file is made and you are randomly assigned to a faculty member for advising. top
How do I change advisors?While we hope you are satisfied with your advising assignment, we do realize you may find a change necessary. In order to change advisors, you should first speak with the faculty member who you would like as your advisor. If he approves and is willing to take you on as an advisee, you need to stop into the ME office and fill out a change of advisor form. top
How do I schedule a visit with my advisor?You have several options available when scheduling an appointment with your advisor. 1) Send an email message; 2) Call the advisor's office and set up a time slot; 3) Stop by the advisor's office and set up an appointment based on the office hours posted outside the door. The ME Office Staff does not schedule advising appointments. top
What do I need to do after scheduling a meeting with my advisor?Just before your scheduled appointment, you need to stop into the ME office and pick up your academic file. You will need your NDSU student ID card to do so. When requesting your file, you will hand the ID card in and you will receive your file. Your ID card will be returned once the file is returned to the ME office. top
What if my advisor is unavailable?If your advisor is unavailable, you can be advised by any one of the Mechanical Engineering faculty available, or you can reschedule with your advisor. top
What is an advisor hold? How is it removed?An advisor hold prevents you from registering for classes or making any changes in your current registration. A hold may be placed on your record for any reason. Every semester, the Mechanical Engineering Department places advisor holds on all basic program students.
In order to have an advising hold removed, you must simply meet with your advisor. The advisor will sign a small colored card following the meeting and you will need to hand that card in separately from your file into the ME office. top
Why is it important to meet with an advisor each semester?It is important to see your advisor each semester to make sure that you are taking the appropriate courses, in order to be admitted into the professional program, and to be sure all requirements have been met before graduation. It is also an excellent opportunity to get to know your advisor on a personal basis for such reasons as job references, scholarship applications, graduate program references, etc. If for any reason you are unhappy with your advisor, please request a change of advisor in the ME office. top
RegistrationHow do I change my major?In order to transfer to another major, you need to complete the appropriate transfer paperwork in the Registration & Records office (Ceres 110). *Note: Each department has set admissions standards. You will not be allowed to transfer if you do not meet the admission standards for that program. top
How do I drop a class?In order to drop a class, you need to log into your Campus Connection account. You can drop a class online at anytime throughout the semester, up until about the end of the 13th week of classes. Check with the Registration & Records Office for specific dates.
*Be sure to officially drop the class, otherwise you will receive a failing grade even if you are not attending the class. top
How do I register?All registration is handled through Campus Connection. You can register online through the Campus Connection link. You can check Campus Connection online for registration times and can register at your assigned time for all classes for which you are eligible. top
What courses do I need to take?The curriculum card and flow chart show what the required courses are and the suggested/required sequence. These will include the engineering requirements as well as the North Dakota University System's general education requirements. top
Where can I view and retrieve my academic file?Your academic file is located in the ME Office (Dolve 111). In order to retrieve your file, you need to bring your NDSU ID card to the office and hand it to the department staff. Once you return your file, your ID card will be returned to you. You should come to the office and get your file a few minutes before your advisor meeting.

CurriculumWhat are the requirements to enter the ME professional program?In order to enter the ME professional program, you must have completed the first two years in the core curriculum of the Mechanical Engineering Department and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8. You must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average at NDSU of 2.8. Additionally, no grades less than a "C" are acceptable. top
What is the ME Professional Program?The ME professional program includes the junior and senior years in the ME curriculum, by general rule the 300 and 400 level courses. top

MiscellaneousWhat do I do if my Bison card is lost or stolen?You should immediately report a lost or stolen Bison card to security located in the Thoreson Maintenance Building at the Traffic Desk. top
Where can I air a grievance concerning a professor or a department?In order to air a grievance against an instructor or department, you should first visit with your advisor. If the problem cannot be resolved through his assistance, then a more formal procedure needs to be followed. A grievance with an instructor should be reported to the chair of the department. If it is not resolved at that level, the Dean of the College should be contacted. If the grievance is a grade appeal, the Bulletin (NDSU catalog) addresses the formal procedure. top
Where can I find important ME student information?Important student information pertaining to mechanical engineering students is posted outside the ME Office (Dolve 111) on the bulletin board. Make sure you check the bulletin board at least once a week for the latest information. You may also receive NDSU email using the list-serv or information may be posted on the web site.
