Assistant or Associate or Full Professor

Description

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor with expertise in the area of energy technologies, including conventional, alternative, and emerging applications. Specific areas of research expertise may involve, among others, energy production, storage, or distribution, including fuel cells, alternative fuels, biomass, wind, solar, gasification, and sequestration techniques. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, development of an externally funded research program, and service to the university and profession. Successful applicants will have a record of accomplishment that demonstrates outstanding abilities or potential in the following skills: oral and written communication, undergraduate/graduate teaching and course development, research and grantsmanship, publication of research activities in peer reviewed journals, academic and professional advising, and workplace cooperation. Preference will be given to candidates with experimental research experience and an ability to teach design-related courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Assistant Professor: • B.S. and earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or closely related field. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Ability to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses. • Ability to publish research activities in peer-reviewed journals. • Ability to develop externally funded research program. • Workplace cooperation skills. • Ability to participate in academic and professional advising. Associate Professor: • In addition to the qualifications listed above, significant experience/accomplishments in one’s area of expertise are required. Full Professor: • In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, national distinction and international recognition in one’s area of expertise, and a substantial scholarly records are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching design-related courses. • Experimental research experience. • Strong record of scholarly achievement.

Department Chair - Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics

Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair. The position will be a full time, 11-month appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. The Chair will be responsible for overseeing curriculum design, facility planning and program implementation and will serve as a mentor and evaluator of the faculty. He/She is expected to lead the faculty and students in their quest for excellence in education and research. It is expected that the chair will have long-term goals for the department and will present a vision for attaining these goals. Strong and effective oral and written communication and demonstrated leadership skills are essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field Eligibility for appointment as a full professor with tenure Demonstrate creative thinking, effective human resource management, and self management through past research, teaching, and administrative work. Excellent communication and leadership skills as demonstrated by ability to work in teams, resolve problems, direct human resources, and negotiate solutions in a culture of acceptance and collegiality. Demonstrate ability to motivate faculty and manage financial resources. Credentials must include: a significant publication record, a strong research funding record, academic administration experience, experience with curriculum development to meet ABET-EAC accreditation requirements, and knowledge of innovative curriculum development and implementation. Demonstrate, seek, promote, and cultivate innovation in engineering education and research, particularly in his/her specialties.

Preferred Qualifications

Service in professional societies, including service on elected boards, editorial boards of journals, and program committees or international conferences. Professional engineering registration and experience (Industrial and /or Consulting)
