Instructions for STAT 4/662 Homework Assignments
The following requirements are to be observed when writing up your homework
assignments. Failure to do so will result in your homework being
handed back. You will then be allowed one week to revise it and hand
it back in. However, you will be assessed the "late penalty"
discussed in the syllabus. Failure to revise and hand in the assignment
within this one week period of time will result in a grade of zero for
the assignment. Click here
for an example write-up of problem 2-16 on page 57.
-
All reports need to be typed. The one exception will be if a particular
problem or part requires substantial mathematical notation. In such
cases, you can leave space in your report for this information and add
it by hand later.
-
For assignments involving multiple problems, each problem needs to be written
up separately and needs to be clearly labeled.
-
Answers to all questions and all parts as well as any extra parts added
by the instructor need to be clearly labeled.
-
Computer output (and possibly any hand calculations) needs to be included
either directly before or after the point in which they are discussed.
For example, when reading your report the instructor should never have
to "look for" the appropriate computer output. The report should
read sequentially.
-
Only include computer output that you actually talk about in your report.
If you don't reference it directly, do not include it in your report.
-
All test statistics, p-values, assumption checks, etc. need to be verified
with either computer output and or hand calculations (when computer output
is not possible).
The instructor reserves the right to change these requirements at any time
during the duration of the semester.
