Leukocytes are one of the three cellular types found in
the blood.
A normal, healthy adult will have 5000 - 10,000/uL (5-10
x 109/L=5,000,000,000 -10,000,000,000/L)
leukocytes in the circulating pool at any given time.
The function of all leukocytes is to provide our body
with defenses against foreign invaders. Each type of
leukocyte accomplishes this in a different manner.
Types of Leukocytes:
granulocytes
- neutrophils
- eosinophils
- basophils
agranulocytes
(nongranulocytes)
- monocytes/macrophages
- lymphocytes
