Using Rubrics to Evaluate Student Projects
Dealing with the evaluation of multimedia projects is, at best, a very difficult thing to do. The problem is; how can you be totally objective with something that is so subjective. Setting up rubrics for projects will not eliminate this problem entirely, but it will certainly help both student and teacher.
In setting up a rubric for a project you must lay out what is not acceptable, meets minimum requirements, is well done, and excellent. Students should have opportunities to score points in a variety of areas; content, presentation, use of multimedia, preparation, response to questions, etc. When that has been done, you apply point values to each category. Total points for a project can then be added up and compared to a total point scoreboard for a final grade.
Each teacher and project will require their own special rubric. The content of the rubric will depend on the teacher's value system and on the nature of the material being presented. We invite you to look at some sample rubrics.
