Doug Kurtze of physics department will lead the session on
"PBL FOR 80: WHAT I'LL DO NEXT TIME."

Teaching faculty and staff are invited to a pedagogical luncheon from 12:00 to 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the Dakota Ball Room in the Memorial Union.  Doug Kurtze of physics department will lead the session on  "PBL FOR 80: WHAT I'LL DO NEXT TIME."

Kurtze will discuss his experiences in converting an 80-student introductory physics course from lecture format to a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) format.  Depending on attendees' interests, he will discuss overall course structure; selecting and sequencing problems; establishing a PBL atmosphere; issues of knowledge transfer; testing how well students locate information; or whatever questions are asked.  The focus will be on issues that were or were not anticipated, and responses that did or did not work.

If you are planning to attend the session, please register by calling Mary Stoa at 1-8671 or by sending e-mail at Mary_Stoa@ndsu.nodak.edu by Wednesday, Nov. 22.  Please indicate your meal choice from chicken lasagna or vegetable lasagna.  This event is sponsored by the Faculty Institute for Excellence in Learning (FIEL) with a grant from the Bush Foundation to promote active learning in classrooms.
