Mission:

This grant is for providing support and training for NDSU faculty interested in dramatically changing the way they teach and consequently how effectively students learn.  This faculty will engage students in a more active learning environment as compared to more traditional student-passive methods.

A term, "Next Generation Interactive Classrooms (NGIC)," was constructed to serve as an umbrella for covering a wide range of active learning strategies.  They include problem-based learning (PBL), studio-based learning (SBL), and cooperative learning (CL).   Classroom assessment and applications of technology are embedded in the above strategies.  To provide structure for the NGIC initiatives, a Faculty Institute for Excellence in Learning (FIEL) is created.
