Summary of Presentation of March 5, 1999 We completed our presentation and discussion of the material of Chapter 18 in the textbook by examining some component level metrics. These metrics have two basic purposes: 1. evaluate how well the components meet required standards; 2. guide assignment of personnel and resources to various components for testing and maintenance. The textbook covers these topics on pages 536 - 544. Among the metrics in these sections, we have already covered McCabe cyclomatic complexity. It is the most commonly used of these metrics, and students should review their notes on this topic. We did not repeat that material in this presentation. Instead, we concentrated upon coupling and cohesion metrics as outlined on pages 536 - 538 of the textbook. We provided many details which are not in the textbook.
