The Coffee Klatch is a discussion list operating via e-mail and Listserv software hosted at North Dakota State University. Prof. Isern is the owner of the list, meaning that he adds or deletes subscribers and manages the operations. It is a closed list, meaning that only members can send and receive on it. We use it to submit assignments for the seminar and to talk about them; to make announcements; and to pursue whatever other discussions in the history of the Great Plains we might wish to pursue. As soon as a new member of the seminar is registered, Prof. Isern adds that person to the list. Then he sends a message to the list introducing the newcomer and inviting that person to tell a bit about herself. From then on discussions continue. A handy reference for discussants is the Virtual Seminar Table. There you can look up your colleagues and sort out who is who in the discussions. Another important reference is the Archives of the Coffee Klatch. At the archives you can look up all the contributions to past discussions.
