The Vegemite Challenge in HIST 381

Take the Vegemite Challenge!

Spread it thin and hold your nose,
And don't get any on your clothes.

Elle McPherson, Mel Gibson, and the entire cast of Blue Heelers eat this stuff for breakfast!

Students in NDSU's HIST 381, "Australia & New Zealand," are invited to take the Vegemite Challenge. Participants are encouraged to taste Vegemite spread thin over butter on a Saltine and to rate the taste on a scale where 0 is neutral, something you could eat but wouldn't unless you were hungry, like oatmeal; where +10 is your mother's best home cooking; and where -10 is sheep dung.

This is followed by a second, similar experiment involving that Kiwi staple, Marmite.

Following these exercises, the class will convene as a focus group to consider the questions, "What does this stuff remind you of?" and "What does this teach us about the national characters of Australia and New Zealand?"

Where can I find out more about these wonderful products?
