12 June 2006

Welcome to the NDSU Blightline for June 12 sponsored by Syngenta Crop Protection.

Late blight severity values have increased over the weekend at some irrigated sites. Even though we have not had late blight in recent years, the crop is progressing rapidly and it is important for growers to scout emerged fields for late blight and destroy cull piles to prevent early infection. No late blight has been reported in ND, or elsewhere in our area. Growers should begin preparation for fungicide application. The NDSU recommendation is to begin fungicide application when the accumulated late blight severity value reaches 15, or just prior to row closure, whichever occurs first. None of the dryland sites have accumulated any late blight severity values.

The accumulated late blight severity values as of today for the irrigated sites are:

Beach 4 Hofflund 7 Karlsruhe 1
Leonard 0 Linton 9 Mandan 3
Minot 1 Oakes 6 Robinson 3
Tappen 3 Williston 5 Michigan 3

Thank you for using the NDSU Blightline.
