CE 776 GROUNDWATER AND SEEPAGE
Gorundwater is a resource and as such its quantity and quality
are of great importance and need to be preserved. It is also an important
feature of our environment as apart of hydrologic cycle and therefore need
to be protected from contamination. In other contexts, groundwater can
pose geotechnical problems by seeping into trenches, foundations, and through
and under hydraulic structures. An understanding of the storage and
mechanics of flow of groundwater in geological formations is essential
to estimate groundwater availability in a region and protect it from contamination
from possible sources. Relation of groundwater to the other components
of the hydrological cycle must be properly understood. This graduate level
course addresses these aspects of groundwater.
