Small coccoid. Autosporulation to produce 2 autospores clearly observed.
The elongate mature cells divide on the short axis to produce two cells that are initially nearly spherical, but very quickly become elongate parallel to the plane of division. Many times the two products of division remain together as a pair after the mother cell wall is no longer visible. Mother cell walls do persist for some time and several could be seen free of the daughter cells.
