Landscape Architecture Construction Design and Detailing

2002 Final Examination: They want more, more, more!

Assigned: December 11th at 9:00 am

Due: December 12th at 10:45

Introduction:

Rapid revisions are the focus of today's final examination. Your final examination will be to relocate your plaza to 300 First Avenue North in Fargo.  A decision was made that the current site is not large enough to provide space for the Architecture/Landscape Architecture/Art programs.

The Building Committee was very impressed with the work as proposed for your design at the Northern School Supply site in Fargo, and believes a similar if not identical plaza is needed at the new location.  The new construction plans must be designed and prepared to accommodate this 11th - hour change prior to the project going out to bid as scheduled tomorrow. In addition to the plaza site development the Owners have requested an information display system or kiosk for the new location.  The new plaza and kiosk should be considered as a part of the other improvements presented throughout the semester.

You may start your final drawing package and re-title it XXXFEXAM – where XXX are your initials. I do not suggest starting from scratch.  No exceptions to the file naming - your initials should be as found on the class registration.  After the renaming is complete carefully begin following these instructions.

The new site plan is available within the Course Info site - 2002 Final Exam.dwg.  This AutoCAD file indicates the changes as needed to fulfill the Building Committee's requests.  You should carefully determine the necessary changes needed to implement your new plaza and kiosk system.  Your new plaza design must continue to provide universal access throughout the plaza and kiosk as designed for the original North School Supply site.  It must include planting areas, seating, lighting, etc. modified to reflect the new site location.  The drawing’s layer information must respond to the changes made to your design.  Make certain the following layers respond to your changes and work with the paper space tabs:

  • new layout information,
  • new grading information,
  • new materials information, and
  • new planting information.

NOTE:  They can remain the same as the final assignment, but must be in the same format as requested in the assignments.

    Minimum Criteria:

Layers and paper space tabs providing a layout plan, grading plan, materials, and planting plan.  They must respond to the changes to the site as described above and found on the site plan. Complete the plan location of your plaza and kiosk system on the base layers as provided.  Write Block your layers from the previous location and re-orient for the new site conditions. You will need to demonstrate to me that the work done for this final is now part of the four layers through four separate layout (paper space) tabs.  I should be able to click on each tab and discover the four required drawing sheets.

I will begin walking around the room with 30 minutes remaining. Other layer combinations may be used, but a minimum of four will be required.

    Presentation:

A paper copy of the four drawing sheets should be printed before the end of the class today - please consider the time these drawings will take to print.  Also, your final drawing file must be uploaded to the digital drop box in the LA 441 Course Info Website.

I would encourage you to use your previously drawing setup with the new site as the base layers.  Please do not waste time to creating unnecessary information.

    Minimum Requirements:

    1. Layout plan based on the new site area,

    2. Grading plan based on the new site area,

    3. Materials plan based on the new site area, and

    4. Planting plan based on the new site area.

As part of the evaluation the drawing file layers will be reviewed on the CAD file by moving from the four (+/-) paper space tabs.  This is an important evaluation criteria and should not require turning on and off layers for each tab. Please make certain a title of the drawing is presented as well as a scale and north orientation. You should also have your name on the drawing sheets (A title block area is preferred), Save the completed drawing as indicate above for final evaluation/grading.

NOTE: PREPARE YOUR WORK ON THE HARD DRIVE - DO NOT LOSE YOUR DRAWINGS BY WORKING ON A DISKETTE OR ZIP DISK DURING THIS FINAL.

    Evaluation: 35 Points

ENJOY - You're almost done with LA 441!
