  •
  • Assigned: November 20th at 9:00 am
Due:      November 27th at 9:00 am (Discussion to follow)

    Introduction:

The purpose of assignment eight will be to design and specify an area to receive students,  visitors, and guests to NDSU Downtown as well as offer orientation and information about Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and Art.  The designed area shall provide an elevated platform with an information kiosk and seating.  The elevated area must consider access by a wheelchair.

The graphics on these plans, elevation, sections, and details should be prepared in professional way and integrated with the other drawing sheets prepared in Assignments 1-7.

    Description:

Design and detail a raised platform for the information kiosk.  The platform may have a maximum width or diameter of 16 feet.  The platform must be at least 12" above the existing grade.  The platform shall have both stair and ramp access.  The platform must also provided bench seating for the 8-10 users.  The platform should be placed to receive the visitor, but not obstruct their access into the plaza or building.

The information kiosk system should included either a three sided kiosk - not four. The kiosk system must have three information boards of 42" width x 60" height - each will be a description and overview of landscape architecture, architecture, and art.  You should determine the kiosk’s final shape based on the required display system.  The kiosk must provide the observer protection from the rain and also provide shade on hot, sunny days.  Each kiosk side must be a minimum size of four feet wide by eight feet high. The overall height of the "Information Kiosk" shall not exceed sixteen feet to the top of the structure. A simple overhead lighting system should be included for night usage.  The graphics (prepared by others) for the information panels will also be used to communicate activities within the plaza and building. You should present the kiosk in plan view, and elevation/section.  Also provide additional details to completely explain the construction of the information kiosk.

The NDSU Physical Plant has requested that these plans and specifications fit into their office format which is indicated above and that the layering system match the system used on previous projects. NDSU has also requested computerized drawing files which will be used in their management office. This means that the hard copy (prints/copies) will only be used during construction and the computer drawings will be used by this office after the completion of the project for all new construction decisions and site changes.
