
Mrs. Nelson was associated with NDSU for over
44 years . She taught her first NDSU algebra class in the spring
of 1958. Mrs. Nelson graduated with a BS in mathematics and music education
from NDAC in December of 1958, married Gilbert
Nelson in the spring of 1959, and received her masters degree
in mathematics education and administration from NDSU in July of 1960.
She took a few years off to prepare three children (Paul, John and Karla)
for school and rejoined the NDSU math department in 1968. Mr.
Nelson retired in May 1997 after 40 years of teaching in the NDSU math
department. Both Mr. and Mrs. Nelson have been inducted into the
NDSU Quarter-Century Club and are members of the President's Circle at
NDSU. The three children are now grown, employed, married and parents;
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson have 9 grandchildren. She retired from NDSU on
December 30, 2002.

Mrs. Nelson is president of the Fargo-Moorhead
Area Music Club and immediate past-president of the North
Dakota Federation of Music Clubs . She was a handbell director/clinician
for 25 years.
Mrs. Nelson is a life member of theHonor
Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She is the donor of the Carolyn
Nelson and John Callenbach memorial endowed scholarships available
to Phi Kappa Phi members. The application is available from Kris
Shenk, Graduate School Office, Administration Building. Applications
are due by the end of the fall semester. The awards are given February
1.
Mrs. Nelson has served in the North
Dakota Senate representing District 21 since 1995; she previously served
two terms in the North Dakota House of Representatives representing Districts
