Hello to everyone back home!  We are studying very hard!
Meet our new study group!

Today we toured a dairy farm owned by M. and Mme Lambert.  The farm has been in production since 1705 and currently has only 26 head of dairy cattle.
They milk twice a day and feed their cattle by
means of rotation grazing and some hay.  All the animals
are AI with a cost of 35 E for two straws of semen.   Once
calves get to be two weeks old they are sold on the market
for an average price of 350E/head.  Annual turn over rate is
5% however, the average cow's production life span is about
10 years.  It was amazing to see how a small operation can be
profitable when it develops a specialized nice in the market.  The
fact that it is integrated in all areas of the Dairy Industry makes
this a great place to visit and gave students many ideas on making
farms more efficient.

It is unique in the fact that it produces its own milk, butter, yogurt and cheese on the farm and sells it straight to the consumers rather than super markets.
